Derek Porter
Chief Development Officer
An energy-industry veteran with more than 30 years of experience, Derek Porter serves as Chief Development Officer at EdgePrimePower, where he leads projects from sourcing through financial close. He brings deep operational, commercial, asset management, financial, mergers and acquisitions, and project development experience to his role.
Previously, Derek served as COO of Sol Systems, where he supported the company’s growth strategy across its clean energy platform. There he led the power marketing and market intelligence team, supporting development, mergers and acquisitions initiatives, and optimizing commercial operations for 450 megawatts of operating assets. Before that, he was vice president of asset management at Galway Sustainable Capital, supporting and developing the firm’s investment assets to advance the energy transition.
Prior to that, Derek served as COO for Earthrise Energy, working to advance 1 gigawatt of renewable energy pipeline. Before that, he worked at NextEra Energy, managing 4 gigawatts of thermal and renewable assets and later leading business operations and portfolio services for the 18-gigawatt NextEra Energy Resources fleet.
Derek also served as COO at Panda Power Funds and held senior executive roles at AES, including president and chief executive officer of The Dayton Power and Light Company, president of AES Panama, director of business development in North America, and managing director for Greenhouse Gas Services, a GE/AES joint venture. He began his career at Covanta Energy, where he held multiple leadership roles over an 18-year tenure.
Derek earned a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from Cornell University. He serves on the finance committee of the Palm Beach chapter of Adopt A Family, a nonprofit that provides housing and support services to families in need.
